Just to add more trouble, some pistols will simply be marked “Super,” with no letter codes. These are the Super linkless, quick-takedown lever versions of a number of models. I know of the Super designation appearing alone on model A and B pistols, but it can be on others as well. Use caliber and other details of the gun to determine your model if this is the case. Some older pistols will have no model number on the butt. This used to be rare, but is increasingly common as old stocks are cleared out. These are all the year coded, Spanish government issue pistols, like the Model and Model Some will clearly be these, as they will carry appropriate crests, or military acceptance stamps.

Gillette Date Codes “How old is this razor? Sometimes patent dates are a help, but they give you the front end of the date scale, and not always too exactly. Some razor makers put serial numbers on their razors, but we don’t always have the key to how the serial numbers fit to dates of manufacture. Gillette is one manufacturer for whom we have information on serial numbers and later date of manufacture codes that we can link to time.
Other makers included serial or manufacturing codes, but we do not have the keys. AutoStrop and Rolls are two well known manufacturers who serial numbered their razors. If you have the key to another manufacturer’s codes, please share this information with other collectors.

Viscount Model Rolls razor in simulated leather case circa s. It seems that no one could bear to throw away a Rolls Razor. That must be why there are so many of these British made safety razors still around. There were 25 for sale on the eBay auction the last time we checked. Here are some tips. This though can only be a guide to a date – it is not an exact science and some backstamps were used for many, many years. Learning about styles and shapes can also help date pieces, particularly on the older pieces from the early s when many were not marked. In the book you will find over backstamps described. More have been discovered since and are occasionally published by the Spode Society in their publication ‘The Review’.
When Curator of the Spode museum I also recorded some of those used in profusion between and As a general dating guide it will help to know there are 4 distinct periods of ownership of the Spode company. A brief description of these periods and sample backstamps follow: Pieces were not always marked and sometimes just a pattern number appears and no Spode name at all. Painted marks are often in red and marks can also appear printed usually in blue or black, although other colours were used or impressed into the clay so appearing colourless.
It is possible to have a combination of all three. This means formerly Spode as the name continued to be used because the Spode brand had become so well-known. Above is an unusual backstamp which includes the name of the pottery body ie recipe. The undecorated pieces were already made and marked Spode prior to the name change in
Also included are marks seen on other types of glassware including tableware and industrial glass items such as railroad lantern lenses. Entries on some of the more commonly encountered brand and company names for instance, Bromo-Seltzer seen embossed on bottles are also included, as I frequently get questions about them. This is a typical example, as seen on the bottom of an emerald green apothecary jar from the s or s.

History[ edit ] BT’s origins date back to the establishment of the first telecommunications companies in Britain. Among them was the first commercial telegraph service , the Electric Telegraph Company , established in As these companies amalgamated and were taken over or collapsed, the remaining companies were transferred to state control under the Post Office in These companies were merged and rebranded as British Telecom.
John Hudson, with his other premises in nearby Shudehill. The first exchange was opened in London in August , closely followed by the Lancashire Telephonic Exchange in Manchester. In it became the primary supplier of telecommunications services, after the Post Office took over the private sector telephone service in GB, except for a few local authority services. Those services all folded within a few years, the sole exception being Kingston upon Hull , where the telephone department became present day KCOM Group.
In the Bridgeman Committee produced a report that was rejected. A committee was set up to look into the advantages and disadvantages of the proposal, and its findings were found to be favourable enough for the Government to re-establish a Steering Group on the Organisation of the Post Office. After some initial deliberations that the business should be divided into five divisions; Post , Telecommunications, Savings , Giro and National Data Processing Services, it was decided that there should be two: These events finally resulted in the introduction of the Post Office Act, The Act gave the Post Office the exclusive privilege of operating telecommunications systems with listed powers to authorise others to run such systems.

Contact The History of the Folding Bike There have been many who have laid claim to the invention of the folding bike. Humorously, a bike manufacturer who shall remain nameless so as to not unduly embarrass them audaciously claims on their website to have produced the world’s first folding bike in Wishful thinking by their marketing department I suppose. The truth is that the folding bike has been around for considerably longer than one might imagine and most claims of being the first are erroneous.
First things first though, you can’t have a folding bike without the invention of the bicycle itself. So a very short history lesson on the bicycle is in order.

Help with ID and Value Posted: Mon Dec 20, 9: Thu Jun 12, 7: Charles Scott, his brother, was born in William Scott worked on the farm with his parents until he was 21 years old, but then obtained an apprenticeship as a gun finisher, probably with Benjamin Parker in Bury St Edmunds. Most people at this time started their apprenticeships at 14 so it seems that either William decided to change his career or his father needed his help on the farm and sought reimbursement for William’s upbringing and education!
Charles’s career probably followed the same course. In , when his apprenticeship finished, William married Mary Susan Middleditch born Bury St Edmunds and moved to Birmingham where he established himself as an outworker gun finisher at 11 Lench Street. They were only recorded in the street directories in There are reports that William Scott established his business or was working in at 79 Weaman Street, but these are obviously not correct as William would have been only 14 years old at the time; the William Scott of 79 Weaman Street was a different person.
In they had another son, James Charles Scott. In the firm moved to 33 Lench Street, and they took additional premises in 21 Loveday Street. In they moved to Court, 4 Shadwell Street. William Middleditch Scott aged 15 was working in the firm as a gun finisher, James Charles aged 14 was employed as a gun engraver.
