Trophy Guide Raid A Raid is a six-player cooperative mission which requires high-level gear and abilities. Raids are different from Story missions and Strikes, since players won’t be given objectives or waypoints. Raids will force players to figure out the mission mechanics themselves. Since proper coordination and communication is needed between each member of the team, Raids do not support matchmaking. Modes Raid missions come with two difficulties: Normal mode will let players learn more about the Raid’s mechanics, and with effective communication and execution. Hard mode in the other hand, will include deadlier enemies, increased mechanic difficulty, and a harsher death penalty in addition to the what Normal mode provides. Hard mode is unlocked after completing the Raid in normal mode. Progress Raids are also lenghty, and it is almost impossible to complete everything in one sitting.

Raids in Destiny don’t have matchmaking, and this has caused a lot of frustration for the player base because it is difficult to find 6 players to play together with.
Helping gamers rage less and enjoy their games more. With a few weeks since my last heavy dose of Destiny I have found the grind to be a bit more entertaining and fresh. Who I ended up playing with, however, was a very different experience than when I first ventured into the Destiny universe. Most of my friends have moved on to other games, and using LFG sites for runs on The Prison of Elders or a Nightfall just seems like overkill.
So is it time for Destiny to get the dreaded m-word added to it? Thankfully I have an awesome stream community with a rotating door of people willing to jump in and play. So we played almost every level of The Prison and even a Nightfall with almost no talking. And every 30 minutes or so someone would have to leave and another person would cycle in.
I will touch on why I think the raid went so poorly, but you get the point. I was playing with random people, nobody was communicating, and we were able to move fairly seamlessly because of the batch of viewers willing to jump right in. What about the raids? The big point of contention whenever matchmaking comes up is how poorly it would work in the raids.
To a point I think it would be problematic if not done properly, but I have a feeling my group suffered from an entirely different problem.

Random Article Blend If you were hoping to log-in to Destiny, fire up the game menu and open an option to instantly find a good raid team via a matchmaking tool The designer addressed the issue of finding decent matches for raids via in-game tools. Smith shoots down the idea that they need traditional tools that people are accustomed to, when discussing matchmaking I think that’s the challenge. It’s not how do we change the raid-design philosophy to allow for matchmaking.
The game itself feels like the skeleton of an MMO that was intended to evolve into a bustling single-player campaign, but neither idea came together in a way that made it satisfactory Nevertheless, Bungie wants to address the game’s lack of camaraderie and they’re going to do so in a way that fits the nature of the game. So how do they plan to do this? Well, Smith offers something of an old-school suggestion

Destiny’s Lack of Matchmaking Persists Leading Into Year 2
You won’t get to fail repeatedly because at least two people from your random group will rage quit after the first wipe and then you’ll get to go replace them. I’m fairly certain that the notion of random raid groups multiplied by the toxicity of the console shooter community is the actual definition of Hell, and I will gladly stick to the rest of the game should I ever be unable to put together a pre-made group.
Well there’s no built in chat system, so that would temper the toxicity quite a bit.
In Destiny, raids are that something special, but, anything else that needs a three man fire team should be matchmade. Nightfall strikes, special missions requiring a fire team or even a difficult mission set on nightmare difficulty should have the “Matchmaking” option available.
Nov 3, I’ve had very similar thoughts about the whole Matchmaking thing in the Destiny series, and I thought I’d chime in with some ideas that I’ve observed over time as Destiny has evolved. I come from a very heavy MMO background as well so the idea of the game not having chat or an LFG system built into the game was baffling to me and a huge deterrent for me enjoying the game during Year 1.
Over time, as I played the game more and actually got more invested in it, I started to try to understand the why behind certain decisions when it comes to matchmaking. Some of the decisions they make downright make the game more frustrating for a player, especially on PC. However, as you mentioned in the OP, it does line up with their philosophy of what Destiny should be like.
This presents unique challenges as there are some positives that come from the situation they have made as well as the negatives I’m sure many of us have all encountered. The main thing that sticks out to me is that having the player leave their comfort zone somewhat to gain passage into doing a harder activity can lead to bolstering the community as a whole. An example of this could be the original DestinyGAF community.
When people realized they couldn’t do the Weekly Heroic Strikes with matchmaking, the first thing they did was jump online and meet some people that they could try it with. There was a lot of failures, but when the successes happened, those players tended to stick together. The more and more players stuck together after meeting each other was what started the community itself.
It only got bigger as people started to lead newer players through content and bring them into the fold. Basically because of those matchmaking limitations, it aided in forming a community that is still going strong today.
